Over the years I have developed a fondness for
My Own Abstract Style.
Here are three of those
characteristics:
1. Lots of texture. Created with Liquitex Modeling Paste, gel
mediums, heavy body acrylic pants, acid free tissue papers and other
materials to create rich, deep and touchable surfaces.
2. Circular or curved radius shapes and lines. These elements
of
abstraction are often founded in my desire to represent solar, lunar,
or other abstract landscape features such as rolling hills or horizon
curvatures.
3. Abstraction of colors. I select my pallet of colors based on my
mind's eye interpretation of what I see in many of my Kansas photographs.
Paring with
the composition of my paintings the final colors are a abstraction taken
from
reality.
On April 18, 2018 I updated
this page to
include six paintings on this web page.
I have found there are many of my paintings that I need to
add to this
web site. As you scroll down this page you will see markers showing
the
"DATE
ADDED" for paintings
recently added to this page. Please check
this site for future additions.
"Abstract July 2012"
(posted here on 7-15-2018)
I have this photo image of this painting. This could be one of
my "lost paintings", yet it
could be just
hidden away in one
of our many storage areas. I believe it is on 8" x 10" canvas.
If interested I will do a more exhaustive search. If found the
price would $250.
"Twister 51015"
DATE ADDED to
web site: April 24, 2018
This painting was created early
May 2015. That spring brought many
Tornados to this mid-western area. On May 6, 2015 there were 47
tornados in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska.
Seventeen of the tornados were in Kansas.
As entered into a juried exhibit in 2015 it was rejected
because one of the judges
felt it did not have a finished appearance. I agreed with the judge
and took the painting
home. For three years I have been thinking about this painting.
Two days ago I began to
"finish up" this painting. I believe it is now the painting that I
always thought it could be.
Price for both panels: $300.
This following painting "Around
The Corner" was sold at the
Warehouse 414 Gallery in June 2012. Its construction consists of
two canvas panels is such a manner that it could be displayed on
the corner of a wall or displayed on a wall shelf or in a book case.
"Abstract Thoughts" completed
2017, Three Panels each 8"x 10"
The colors and shapes seem to just spill and jump across the separated
panels.
Price is $600
This smallish triptych, three
pieces each 3" x12", is a longtime favorite
of mine. It was exhibited at Warehouse 414 and then included in
local
Designers' Showcase Home.
Completed March 2012. Is now in a private collection.
"Any Way Up" is the title of
this small 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" acrylic
abstract on acid free mat board. (January 2009)
The name of this painting happened as I was putting it into its frame
There just seems to be more than one top, one bottom, one right side, or
one
left side. So almost any way up could be the top of the painting.
Price is $75
"Under And Above The Line"
7" x 10.5" abstract painting
on acid free mat board. (January 2009)
Price is $75
"Abstract 5-12" is on three 8"
x8" canvas panels and ready to be displayed on your wall without
the need for framing. As indicated in the title of this painting it
was completed in May 2012.
This painting is in a private
collection.
The following abstract is a favorite of mine. See many things
from river flowing
into coastal waters to butterfly wings. The heavy thick textures of
this painting are
a sensual joy to run your fingers over.
"Abstract May 2012" is a
richly textured painting on a 12" x 24" canvas.
I worked on this painting for many months, completing it in May of 2012.
Price: $450
"Abstract
6-13-17" This painting
was started on April 2017 and completed June13, 2017.
Original under paintings were over-painted
several times until this final composition and colors evolved.
Completing my abstract paintings is much different from beginning and
finishing a still life watercolor painting.
The overall display size of
this painting 10" x 29". It is on stretched
canvas panels. Price is $350
As shown below I currently have this painting displayed on wall shelf.
This
display method allows the integration of abstract design with
other traditional home decorations.
"Ah, Kansas"
Acrylic abstract on a deep 12"H x 36"W canvas, unframed.
This painting was created over a five week period.
Layers of color were applied, several finish layers of

chest height this
painting became very enjoyable when displayed with other
paintings and framed photographs.

This acrylic abstract, "Kansas Sun" is on two
20"x24" canvas panels.
Price $900
Here is a example of
how this painting compliments a casual furniture setting:
"Kaw River" - Acrylic abstract
created in January of
2009, about
4 ˝ “
x 7” on acid free mat board,
in black wood frame.
The colors and designs
were selected to over take the Kansas wintertime grays and browns.
Hopefully, these combinations of the colors and free flowing brush strokes
will bring some visual enjoyment as you look closely at the details.
Price: $150
"Sun dogs of an August Kansas
day" -- August 2009
Richly textured acrylic abstract on 24" x 36" canvas.
The
Kansas August weather is often a mixture of hot sunny days and quick
moving storms. The customary
definition of “sun dogs” are the reflected false sun-like shapes created
by atmospheric ice crystals. Growing up in
Great Bend the local term was used to describe the false
images of the sun after looking directly at the setting sun.
